Police Science, Criminal Justice and Criminology Program
A unique course work for commanding officers in police departments is now offered by I.C.S.I.
This academic program study is designed as a Command & HQ course dealing with issues of strategy, intelligence, law enforcement, logistics and operations, all in the field of Police work.
As the saying goes, the gap between knowledge and implementation is wide, however the gap between the lack of knowledge and implementation is infinite. The acquisition of knowledge is, therefore, a first step towards a successful function of a Senior Police Officer. The ability of a modern police department is today heavily depentent not only on modern technology but also on advanced mangement skills of information, people, logistics and projects.
This special study program is designed specifically for current needs of Police departments and their senior officers searching for theoretical knowledge to improve both organizational output and personal skills. In I.C.S.I. we belive that when senior officers are well-trained they will function in the optimal way, leading their department to better achievements and higher productivity.
The goal of this program of study is to provide students with all necessary professional knowledge for a Senior Police Officer. Students in this study program will explore new concepts in law enforcement theories, developed in western societies during the last decade. They will analyse modern concepts of National Security, and discuss 21st century challanges as global terrorism and human rights. They will experience planning various organizational structures and learn the advantages and disadvantages of different organizational charts used in Police forces around the world. By stressing the need for strict cost-effective analysis of each solution for an organizational challange, students will acquire tools needed for appropriate decision-making and necessary adaptations to the dominant Police doctrine in their country. All this will allow senior police officers to prioritize tasks properly and ultimately take better decisions for the benefit of society at laarge.
Our experience shows that Commanding Officers properly trained provide their organization not only with better day-to-day function, but also better adapt to organizational changes and increasing complexity of field work. The acquisition of practical administrative skills together with theoretical academic training produces Police Officers who hold sound tactical understanding together with strategic vision. This combination allows commanders to lead organizatonal changes without negatively affecting the basic functions of the Police Department. In other words, costs of adaptations to the changing environment are reduced, while the overall function of the Police force is constantly enhanced.
The different courses are based on frontal lectures, analytical discussions, group workshops, exercises, round table academic seminars. At the end of studies graduates are entitled for an academic degree in their chosen field of specialization (National Security, Law Enforcement, Counter-Terrorism, etc.).
